rFactor 2 is arguably one of Sim Racings' 'Cool, strange Uncles' - somewhat mysterious but highly regarded by those in the know - based on its respected physics and handling engine which has been used by a number of other Racing titles.
It has been in development for over 12 years now with sporadic updates - notably ranked racing in the last year or so.
In 2016, development was moved from ISI to Studio 397 - who are currently developing Le Mans Ultimate. Motorsports Games then bought both Studio 397 and rFactor 2 in 2021.
rF2 suffered some notoreity when it was used for the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual race in 2020. The race was red-flagged twice due to server problems, had to be restarted and drew criticism from race leader Max Verstappen. In the 2023 race, the race was red-flagged again due to a server security breach meaning drivers suffered game crashes, including Max Verstappen, who had been leading the race. Frustrated, he said he would uninstall the game and would never race in the event again.
rFactor 2's development appears to have ceased in 2022 with Le Mans Ultimate the studios current focus.

The good
rFactor 2's handling is highly revered by Sim Racers and real Motorsports teams
Some interesting DLC content, notably Formula E
The less good
Stalled development - Le Mans Ultimate now the Studios' focus
Once-impenetrable UI has had a facelift but has it eased entry into the experience?
Graphics engine dated
From a brand point of view, fantasy content can appear inauthentic to Players in regards to real Motorsports activities
