Gran Turismo made a surprisingly direct announcement this morning regarding Fanatec being the official partner of the Gran Turismo World Series :

"Regarding the partnership between Gran Turismo and Fanatec
Fanatec remains the Official Steering Wheel Partner of the Gran Turismo World Series. There has been no change to our partnership with Fanatec regarding the GT World Series or their position as the official hardware supplier at live events.
Fanatec equipment will continue to be used at Gran Turismo World Series live events as the official hardware, providing a consistent competitive environment for the world's top drivers. Be sure to check out Round 3 in Singapore in October and the World Finals in Tokyo in December." -Gran Turismo

Looking further into things, it appears this maybe due to Moza's statement from earlier this week :

"We're excited to announce that starting August 15, MOZA Racing will officially become an Official Partner of the Gran Turismo World Series.

This is more than a partnership.
It’s the beginning of a new chapter for MOZA, and the first step toward bringing an officially licensed MOZA racing product to millions of Gran Turismo players around the world.

The next chapter starts now." -Moza Racing

Certainly confusing for us mere consumers. Reading between the lines, Gran Turismo statement contains "Official Steering Wheel Partner" which is oddly specific. Moza's statement clearly state 'starting August 15' - which is coincidentally the date for Round 2 of the 2026 Gran Turismo World Series, broadcasting from Tokyo.

The other take home here is that this means PlayStation Gran Turismo (and Sim Racers in general) can look forward to more competition in the form of new PS5-compatible products from Moza themselves. A cursory glance of comments across Social Media suggest that consumers are excited for this development.

More competition is always good, that's for sure.
